Specialized Professional Training for ESL/EFL Teachers

UCSB Extension's TESOL Professional Sequence Award and Professional Certificate Programs provide specialized theoretical and practical training for teaching ESL/EFL in the U.S. and abroad.

The TESOL programs train both novices and experienced teachers to effectively utilize the most current methods, materials, research, and resources in a variety of teaching situations. In addition, the TESOL programs help trainers to develop an individualized teaching style consistent with the special requirements of the ESL/EFL classroom.

The TESOL Professional Certificate Program includes two 27-hour practicum seminar courses. The practicum courses give participants the opportunity to develop lesson plans, practice teaching international students in the classroom, observe other teachers, and receive and give feedback. Candidates have the option of either taking the whole program intensively in one quarter, or as a self-paced sequence over two or more quarters.
