GVI comes highly recommended and we hold GVI's ability to screen, select and place volunteers in very high esteem. - Kevin Moore, Director of South African National Parks Don't just take our word for it! We have 1000's of happy past participants, here are just a few. Jess Freeman, age 21 Jess was graduating from college with no idea what to do. She came across GVI and her involvement in the Marine Conservation Expedition in Mexico has helped give her life a whole new direction. "I decided to volunteer with GVI because I was graduating from college and had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. GVI sounded like the perfect thing to do. When I got to Mexico I was surprised how passionate the local partners were that we were working with. The highlight of my experience was meeting people from around the world who had the same reasons for being there as I did. The work that I did with GVI in Mexico is now the work that I want to do in my future. It made me realize what I was passionate about and what I wanted to pursue. I am now doing a marine biology masters." Michael Bradley, age 56 Michael took early retirement and was twiddling his thumbs until he ventured into the Amazon. Photography which was once his hobby has now turned into a full time occupation. "Nothing could have prepared me for the intensity of the Amazon jungle. The sights, sounds, bugs, physical and mental challenges were overwhelming at first for someone my age but the encouragement from staff, local community and fellow Expedition Members spurred me on. The biodiversity fascinated me. I'd never seen a world like it. I became passionate about trying to capture the magnificence of the area on film. I've since run several exhibitions and presentations on the area back home and my photography has blossomed. I don't know why I didn't do something like this sooner." Steph Thorns, age 32 After working for the health service for 10 years, Steph decided on a well earned break to GVI's project in Guatemala. She started fundraising before her trip and at the last count had raised over £4,000 for the project. Her funds have helped set up a scholarship program to help the kids get the education that they so desperately need. "What more can I say. This career break has changed my life and career forever, it was a fantastic experience." |
